Registration Begins for UNH Summer
Theatre & Dance Camps
DURHAM, NH: Registrations begin March 1 for
UNH’s 2010 Theatre & Dance Day Camps. These programs offer training in creative
arts, theatre, movement, production, performance and dance. The skilled and
experienced instructors have theatre and education degrees and/or are state
certified to teach grades 3-12. They provide a supportive atmosphere in which
talents and creativity are encouraged.
Primary Drama Camp
July 5-9 • entering grades 3-5 • 8:30AM-4:30PM • $245
Make a splash this summer “Under the Sea” on the UNH stage. This production is
based on the NH Children’s Library summer reading theme, “Make a Splash.”
Through drama, music, movement and art, primary students showcase their natural
acting impulses. Students of all experience levels are encouraged to enroll. An
original showcase featuring sea creatures in an underwater world is performed
for families and friends on July 9, at 3:00pm in the Johnson Theatre. Free
tickets for the final performance will be available; the total number for each
student’s guests is subject to enrollment size. Enrollment: 12-25. Registration
is due by June 14.
Junior Acting & Playwriting Camp
July 5-9 • entering grades 6-8 • 8:30AM-4:30PM • $250
The play’s the thing... This is our most creative camp! Students and director
explore a central theme and create characters, scenes and situations that make
up an original (often hysterical) production. Students create monologues,
scenes, even movement and dance to add to the piece. Last year’s production,
“Middle School Musical,” was a lively and funny show about the trials and
tribulations of middle school. Whatever this year’s show will be, it is sure to
be just as entertaining. A performance showcase is presented for families and
friends on July 9, at 6:00pm in the Hennessy Theatre. Free tickets for the final
performance will be available; the total number for each student’s guests is
subject to enrollment size. Enrollment: 13-32 students. Registration is due by
June 14.
Junior Musical Theatre Camp
August 2-13 • 2-week Series • entering grades 6-8 • 8:30AM-4:30PM • $375
During this 2-week series, students receive musical theatre training in
performance and production. The series concludes with a performance of a musical
production (TBA). Focus is placed on technique in music, acting and
choreography. Musical Theatre classes incorporate character development,
movement, choreography, scene study and singing. Students are exposed to the
audition process on the first day and everyone is cast as a singer, dancer
and/or actor. Students of all experience levels are encouraged to enroll. The
final performance is presented for families and friends on August 13, at 4:00pm
in the Hennessy Theatre. Free tickets for the performance will be available; the
total number for each student’s guests is subject to enrollment size.

Advanced Musical Theatre Camp
Featuring “The Best of Broadway” a selection of scenes and musical numbers from
some of Broadway’s most celebrated plays and musicals.
August 2-13 • 2-week Series • entering grades 9-12 • 8:30AM-4:30PM • $395
Advanced Musical Theatre students spend an intensive 2-week series focusing on
acting, singing and dance. This rigorous camp weaves musical theatre with
movement and choreography to create a professional, inspiring production of a
Broadway revue tailored to the strengths of each performer. Students are exposed
to the audition process on the first day and everyone is cast as a singer,
dancer and/or actor. The performance will be presented free of charge for family
and friends on August 13, at 7:00pm in the Johnson Theatre. Enrollment: 15-32.
Registration is due by July 12.
Design & Theatre Technology Camp
August 2-13 • 2-week Series • Entering grades 9-12 • 8:30AM-4:30PM • $350
Learn the art of stagecraft, lighting design and stage crew from industry
professionals during this two week camp focusing on the back stage elements that
support both the Junior and Advanced Musical Theater Camps. Crew both August 13
camp performances and gain hands-on experience with light, sound and fly systems
in both UNH Hennessy and Johnson Theatres. Enrollment: 12. Registration is due
by July 12.
Dance Intensives
July 12-23 • 2-WEEK SERIES • 8:30AM-1:30PM • $300
JUNIOR DANCE INTENSIVE • entering grades 5-8
SENIOR DANCE INTENSIVE • entering grades 9-12
So, we think you can dance! Dancers in grades 5-12 are invited to participate in
our popular Dance Intensive Summer Series. This unique program, offering an
array of dance disciplines and styles, will be taught by skilled dance
professionals, including faculty, alumni and students from the acclaimed UNH
Dance program. For two weeks, students will study many different dance forms and
receive 45 hours of inspiring classes, improving their technique in all genres:
ballet, lyrical, tap, jazz, hip hop, aerial, contemporary, modern and
partnering. Junior Prerequisite: Formal dance training of 3-5 consecutive years
is recommended; beginners with at least one year of dance will also be welcomed.
Senior Prerequisite: Formal dance training of 5-8 consecutive years is
recommended; more advance dancers and those experienced in stage performance
and/or dance competition will also be welcomed. A Dance Showcase will be
presented for families and friends on July 17, at 1:30pm in the dance studios.
Enrollment: 12-25. Registration is due by June 21.
Aerial Dance Intensive
July 26-30 • 1-WEEK SERIES • 9:00AM-11:00AM • $150
JUNIOR AERIAL INTENSIVE • entering grades 5-8
SENIOR AERIAL INTENSIVE • entering grades 9-12
For students who wish to explore the exciting genre of aerial arts in depth,
this week-long intensive focuses on the technique, vocabulary, safety and the
unique structure of aerial dance. Enrollment: 20. Registration is due by July 5.
ENROLLMENT • CANCELLATIONS • REFUNDS: Registration begins March 1, 2010 and is
due 3 weeks prior to each camp’s start date. Full tuition is due with the
registration form. After the registration due date, tuition is nonrefundable.
Programs fill quickly and students are often placed on a waiting list; however,
in the unlikely event that the minimum enrollment is not met by the registration
due date, students will be contacted about camp cancellation and a full refund
will be mailed. If the enrollment minimum has been filled by the due date, and
the class is not yet full, then students will be enrolled until the first class
date, as space allows. After the registration deadline, confirmation and an
information packet will be mailed to you.
