Beethoven Concert & Student Performathon to Mark Music School's Anniversary Weekend

CONCORD, NH: The Concord Community Music School will begin its 21st anniversary celebrations with an all-Beethoven concert Friday, March 24, at 8 pm, followed the next day by an open house and student Performathon.

Gretchen Snedeker will discuss Beethoven’s homage to Mozart in a 7 pm, pre-concert lecture. The concert, in the Music School’s Recital Hall, 23 Wall St., downtown Concord, begins with Quintet for Piano and Winds, op. 16, followed by Clarinet Trio, op. 11; Horn Sonata, op. 17 and An die Ferne Geliebte.

The musicians, all Music School faculty members, are: Stefani Burk, oboe; Stephanie Ratté, clarinet; Maria Isaak, bassoon; Brian Gardell, French horn; Charles Lindsey, tenor; Donna Denniston, cello; and Peggy Senter and Kathryn Southworth, piano.

Tickets for the concert are $15 for adults and $10 for students and may be reserved in advance by calling 603-228-1196.

The public is invited to stop by the next day, March 25, anytime from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for non-stop performances in both the School’s Recital Hall and Community Room, including the Purple Finches children’s chorus at 10 a.m., student jazz ensembles at 1 p.m., adult students at 3 p.m. and alumni at 5 p.m. The recitals are admission-free, although participating students are expected to collect pledges in advance for the School’s Financial Aid Fund.

The public also is invited during the Saturday anniversary celebrations to try out a range of instruments at the instrument petting zoo from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; enjoy birthday cake at noon; and participate in a drumming circle at 2 p.m.
