Registrations Begin for UNH Summer Theatre & Dance
Camps
DURHAM, NH: Registrations are being accepted
for the UNH Department of Theatre & Dance Day Camps. These courses offer
training in creative arts, theatre, movement, production, performance and dance.
The skilled and experienced instructors have theatre and education degrees
and/or are state certified to teach grades 3-12. They provide a supportive
atmosphere in which talents and creativity are encouraged.
Primary Drama Camp • Entering Grades 3-5 $145/$245
July 7-11 • 8:30am-12:00 or 4:30pm
Through story drama, puppets, and music, students will showcase their
natural acting impulses. Story drama is enhanced by musical theatre and puppets
to create an original telling of a popular children’s story. Students will
design and craft a puppet and will learn how to use it for performance. Students
will also explore musical theatre through singing, movement and basic
choreography and will explore drama through speaking, characters and scenes.
Students of all experience levels are encouraged to enroll. An original showcase
will be performed for families and friends on Friday, July 11 at 11:30am and
3:30 pm in the Hennessy Theatre. Free tickets for the final performance will be
available; the total number for each student’s guests will be subject to
enrollment size. Enrollment: 12-25. Registration is due by June 16.
Junior Acting & Playwriting Camp • Entering Grades 6-8 $250
July 7-11 • 8:30am-4:30pm
Students will learn the basic steps for playwriting by authoring
monologues and dialogues which will then be used to create a group piece for the
final showcase. Students will also be guided through acting techniques for
characterization, movement, and interaction with other characters. Students will
create an original ensemble performance using theatre, music, art or any other
special skills they bring to the experience. Students of all experience levels
are encouraged to enroll. A performance showcase will be presented for families
and friends on July 11 at 6:00pm in the Hennessy Theatre. Free tickets for the
final performance will be available; the total number for each student’s guests
will be subject to enrollment size. Enrollment: 13-32 students. Registration is
due by June 16.
Junior Musical Theatre Camp • Entering Grades 6-8 $375
August 4-15 • 2-week Series • 8:30am-4:30pm
During this 2-week series, students will receive musical theatre
training in performance and production concluding with a performance of “Roald
Dahl’s Willy Wonka Junior.” Focus will be placed on training in music, acting
and choreography. Musical Theatre classes will incorporate character
development, vocalization, acting technique, movement, choreography, scene
study, creative drama and singing. Students will design and craft scenery,
costumes and/or props to be used in their musical. On day one, students will be
auditioned. Everyone will have a place, either as a singer, dancer and/or actor.
Students of all experience levels are encouraged to enroll. The musical theatre
performance will be presented for families and friends on August 15 at 4:00pm in
the Hennessy Theatre. Free tickets for the final performance will be available;
the total number for each student’s guests will be subject to enrollment size.

Advanced Musical Theatre Camp • Entering Grades 9-12 $395
August 4-15 • 2-week Series • 8:30am-4:30pm
In this intensive 2-week series, students will focus on acting, singing
and choreography in preparation for the performance showcase of “You’re a Good
Man, Charlie Brown” (revised). This rigorous camp weaves musical theatre with
movement and choreography to create a professional, inspiring performance. On
day one, students will be auditioned and cast. Everyone will have a place,
either as a singer, dancer and/or actor. Bring your enthusiasm and talent, and
let’s get down to work! Students of all experience levels are encouraged to
enroll. The musical theatre performance will be presented free of charge for
family and friends on August 15 at 7:00pm in the Johnson Theatre. Enrollment:
15-32. Registration is due by July 15.
Design and Theatre Technology Camp • Entering Grades 9-12 $350
August 4-15 • 2-week Series • 8:30am-4:30pm
Learn the art of stagecraft, lighting design and costuming from
industry professionals during this two week camp focusing on the back stage
elements that support both the Junior and Advanced Musical Theatre Camps. Crew
both August 15 camp performances and gain hands-on experience with light, sound
and fly systems in both UNH Hennessy and Johnson Theatres. Enrollment: 12.
Registration is due by July 15.
Junior Dance Intensive • Entering Grades 5-8 $300
Senior Dance Intensive • Entering Grades 9-12 $300
July 14-25 • 2-Week Series • 8:30am-1:30pm
Dancers in grades 5-12 are invited to participate in the Dance
Intensive Summer Series to be held at the UNH dance studios. This unique
program, offering an array of dance disciplines and styles, will be taught by
skilled dance professionals. During the two weeks, students will study 11
different dance forms and receive 45 hours of inspiring classes. Improve your
technique in all genres: ballet, lyrical, tap, jazz and hip hop. Try new classes
in circus dance, funk, musical theatre, contemporary, partnering, and stretch
and conditioning. Junior Prerequisite: Formal dance training for 3-5 consecutive
years is recommended; beginners with at least one year of dance will also be
welcomed. Senior Prerequisite: Formal dance training for 5-8 consecutive years
is recommended; more advance dancers and those experienced in stage performance
and/or dance competition will also be welcomed. Attire: Dance clothing and dance
shoes (ballet, jazz and tap) will be required. A dance showcase is scheduled for
July 25 at 12:00 pm in the Hamel Dance Studio. Enrollment: 12-25 students.

Junior Aerial Dance Intensive • Entering Grades 5-8 $125
Senior Aerial Dance Intensive • Entering Grades 9-12 $125
July 28-Aug. 1 • 1-Week Series • 8:30am-11:30am
For students who wish to explore the aerial arts in depth, this
week-long mornings only intensive focuses on the technique, vocabulary, safety
and the unique structure of aerial dance. Enrollment: 15. Registration is due by
June 23.
