Experience the Joy of Godspell with Burlington Players BURLINGTON, MA: Light-hearted and heart-felt, with a knock-out score, "Godspell" has been called "the greatest musical of the century based on the greatest story ever told." The Burlington Players' production of this delightful and deeply moving romp by runs May 2-17 at the Park Playhouse, One Edgemere Ave. Thursday through Saturday performances are at 8 pm; Sunday, May 4 is at 2 pm; and Sunday, May 11 is at 7 pm. The show was written by then-college student John-Michael
Tebelak and Stephen Schwartz of Pippin, and more recently Pocahontas, and Prince
of Egypt, fame. It became one of the longest-running musicals in New York
history and won a Grammy Award for Best Score. "Godspell" was an immediate hit
when it opened in 1971 off-Broadway in New York and it launched the professional
careers of gifted performers like Victor Garber, Gilda Radner, Martin Short,
Eugene Levy and Andrea Martin. The show soon moved to Broadway for a total of
more than 2,600 performances. During the long run, productions opened in Los
Angeles, London, Paris, Washington, D.C., Toronto, San Francisco, Melbourne,
Sydney, Hamburg, and Berlin. Several songs from the show, including Day by Day,
became chart hits. |
