Saugus Theatre Presents Gilbert & Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance

SAUGUS, MA: The bonds of duty have never been presented with such irreverent delight as in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance. A cast of pirates, police, young lovers, dewy-eyed daughters, and an eccentric Major-General are whirled on a melodious merry-go-round of moral dilemmas. This popular two-act comic opera has been a consistent hit with audiences since 1879. It includes the memorable musical numbers: "Poor Wandering One", "I am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General", "A Rollicking Band of Pirates We"; as well as 21 other audience pleasing numbers.

The Pirates of Penzance will be presented this spring by the Theatre Company of Saugus, under the direction of Leo Nickole, with music direction by Richard DeMone, choral direction by Nancy Lemoine, and choreography by Terrie Bater. The show is generously sponsored by the East Boston Savings Bank.

Cast members include the band of Pirates (Frank Arsenault, David Colpitts, Matt Huffman, Sean Waple, William Waple, and James Wlodyka), led by the Pirate King, (Brian Dion); the pirates’ maid, Ruth (Nancy Lemoine); and their apprentice, Frederic (Brian Cipoletta). They meet the Major General (Bob Russell), his daughter Mabel (Sarah Berggren), and her bevy of Sisters (Amanda Allen, Alexis Fafard, Ashleigh Fafard, Carolina Lanney, Tanya Portalla, and Lauren Robinson). Eventually, the Police are called upon to save the day (Joanne Fafard, Tom Knowlton, Elissa O’Donnell, Jillian-Rae Santosuosso, and Jessica Stockton), led by their Sergeant (Mike Sakovich).

Performances of the The Pirates of Penzance will be on Friday & Saturday 9 & 10 May 2008 at 8:00 PM, a matinee on Sunday 11 May at 2:00 PM, and on Friday & Saturday 16 & 17 May at 8:00 PM. The location is the Belmonte Middle School, on Dow Street in Saugus, Massachusetts. Tickets are priced at $18 for adults, $15 for seniors or students, and $10 for children. To purchase tickets, or for directions or more information, please visit the Theatre Company of Saugus website at http://tcsaugus.home.comcast.net.  Tickets may be reserved by calling 781-231-5204.
