Actor Cuyle Carvin: His Performances Lead to a Real Pain in The Neck! by Fred M. Grandinetti

SALEM, MA: For Cuyle Carvin's role in the feature, Victimized, his neck was on the receiving end of a cleaver. In the picture, Sasquatch Assault, a pair of scissors in the neck did him in.  In the film, Fog Warning, it was more conventional, he was simply stabbed to death by a supposed vampire.

"My neck is often an available target for my death scenes," Carvin smiled while discussing his various demises." It's acting, which I love to do though I don't always stay dead".  In the film, Dirge to the Sea, he portrayed a very active ghost and was the "good guy" in the movie, Jacksonville.

Carvin, 28, said "Eighty percent of what I do is in the New England area. When not filming here I love to visit Salem, Massachusetts especially around the Halloween season. I also visit the North Shore whenever I'm able." Carvin's first film, Person of Interest (where he portrayed twins), was shot in New England and he continues to work with independent directors in the area.

His other film work includes Desperation, The One You Marry, Mind Morgue, Jacksonville and In Heroic Fashion.  "In Heroic Fashion, Carvin explained, I played a not so nice guy who harasses a person at the beginning of the film but this guy ends up helping me out by its conclusion.  All the while I'm dressed as a superhero."

In the feature, The Good Shepherd, Carvin didn't have to worry about a tight superhero costume or clothes at all.  He recalled, "I got a call randomly from a casting company and was asked how I felt about being a naked body double.  I had no problem with it.  It was January 17 when we filmed my scene outside and a lot of people, in addition to the crew, had gathered to watch the filming.  As soon as the crowd saw nudity I heard cheering and gasping only to be informed I couldn't be naked because it was against the law.  I was given a little triangle shaped fabric and the shooting resumed. Despite being given a heater between takes it was cold, very, very cold. I was trying hard not to tremble because I couldn't be seen moving.  It was one memorable movie making experience."

Carvin's television presence has included roles as both an extra and speaking parts in popular soap operas, All My Children, One Life to Live and As the World Turns.  His first television outing was being involved with a Japanese production, Astonishing News.

His love of performing began while watching the movie, Braveheart. Carvin recalled, "I just remember really liking this film and deciding acting is what I wanted to do".  He pursued acting while at Hartwick College performing in various productions. Carvin graduated in 2003 and he continued finding work as an under five player which led to roles in shorts and feature films.

In addition to performing the actor promotes good nutrition.  In November he will be running in the New York City Marathon as a member for Team for Kids who combat child obesity. Carvin says about his involvement, "I know people with a history of health problems relating to poor nutrition. Health care is such an important issue especially with the large amount of information out there which can become overwhelming."

As for Carvin's future plans he said, "I want the regular stuff, a family, kids, house and continue to be a working actor."  If his future acting plans include allowing his neck to be on the receiving end of a cleaver or scissors, Cuyle Carvin's ready!
