Introducing MARISSA! An Evening of Exceptional Jazz & World Fusion with Charles Licata

Plus Ethan Wood, Will Slater, Zach Brown, Lee Fish, and Paulo Stagnaro

BOSTON, MA: Scullers Jazz Club presents “MARISSA! An Evening of Exceptional Jazz & World Fusion with CHARLES LICATA” at 8 PM Tuesday, January 31. Scullers Jazz Club is located in the DoubleTree Suites By Hilton Hotel [400 Soldiers Field Road, Boston, MA 02134]. Tickets at $20.00 each are available now at www.scullersjazz.com or by calling 617-562-4111. Scullers is wheelchair accessible.

27-year old Boston and New York-based violinist Marissa Licata is already a star. She plays classical, jazz, Latin, Klezmer, Middle Eastern, rock, pop, and R&B musical styles with excellence and ease. On stage, she’s a powerhouse soloist, up-front and knocking out an audience with her stylish flair and beauty. Already she has toured the U.S. four times with Jethro Tull, led the string section live on Good Morning America with Alicia Keys, performed with Gloria Estefan on the Latin Grammy Awards Show, appeared on The View with Dave Stewart of Eurythmics and more . . .

Born in Honduras and adopted by American/Sicilian parents as a baby, Marissa grew up in New Jersey, attended Walnut Hill School of Performing Arts in Natick, Massachusetts as a teenager and The Manhattan School of Music in New York and then spent six years at New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. She holds both an NEC Masters Degree as well as a Bachelor of Music Degree in applied violin. Marissa is a highly regarded classical instrumentalist who has performed with the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas and the Boston Ballet Orchestra and she is also regularly featured in the esteemed contemporary classical composer Alla Cohen’s chamber ensembles.

Now, she is launching an exciting and creative jazz project with the release of Water Level, a new CD featuring Marissa and her father, alto saxophonist Charles Licata. Recorded at WGBH FM’s renowned Fraser Studio and featuring all original jazz composed by her dad, the new CD is a musical tour de force.

Marissa is also making her debut at Scullers Jazz Club where she will lead her own band along with her father, violinist Ethan Wood, acoustic bassist Will Slater, acoustic bassist Zach Brown, drummer Lee Fish and percussionist Paulo Stagnaro. Staying true to traditional jazz forms and structure, the concert will differ from the CD, as Marissa will also present new and traditional material with an exciting and uniquely international world-music twist!

Alto saxophonist Charles Licata holds a Masters of Music Degree from New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Buffalo, the city from whence Licata hails. Charles has performed with jazz pianist Jackie Byard, the wonderful pianist/composer Tom McKinley, the immensely talented and renowned tenor saxophonist Jimmy Giuffre and bassist Rufus Reid, among others. But Charles is equally accomplished as a composer, with several definitive albums to his list of credits, all of them featuring his compositions, both in jazz as well as classical genres.
