Synopsis
Reunions consists of three very different stories of very different people set together in a very familiar type of place. While there, Geoff and Betty offer us a serio-comic look at a relationship stretched to the breaking point. Next, while steadying her nerves for her class reunion, Joanne faces a traumatic past with the man she barely knew forty-five years ago. And Stan, alternatively referred to as a pig or genius, offers us the perfect comic scenario for how to pick up women… by pretending to be a widower. As we watch these lives become entwined, we can't help but see people we know at their very best and at their most human.

The Scene... The scenes are set in a friendly neighborhood restaurant bar. There are three tables visible. The tables have tablecloths and candles. They are in a triangular pattern center SL of the bar with two tables down of the third. There is a bar SR. There is a jukebox upstage. Upstage right has a door that leads outside. Upstage left exit leads to a party room and the lavatories.  The Time ... The Present.

About this Playwright

While Geneva, NY resident Jay Hanagan has been writing sketches and bits and poems since high school, he first tackled writing an entire play in 1999. That was the year he became involved with the Geneva Theatre Guild's Playwrights Playreadings program and decided to actually start (and finish) a play. They say to write what you know, so he set out to write "Poker Friends", which GTG accepted for their year 2000 reading. Not knowing that they had released a monster- (nothing emboldens a playwright more than to hear his words spoken out loud for the first time, and to have the audience laugh- when they're supposed to) -Jay has since completed many, many other full length and one act plays with several in the works. (He has trouble focusing.) His plays have either won competitions or been featured in scores of festivals from Alaska to Florida, Hollywood to Boston and New York City, Illinois, Virginia, Colorado, Kansas and Texas. He has been internationally produced as well, having works presented in Canada, the United Kingdom and even Hong Kong.

Versions of each of the plays in Hanagan's Reunions are also available independently as one acts! Class Reunion, Separation Anxiety & The Widower.
