middle-aged, conservative in appearance, dedicated to helping Dr. Logan run his practice,
but with an underlying sense of personal loneliness, longing for connection.
|
 | DR. LOGAN: Psychotherapist in his 40s or
50s, casual in dress and intense in manner
|
 | GIRL ONE & GIRL TWO: Both Girls are
college students in their early 20s, stylish dressers and attractive. They are less

Prentice, their English instructor; they should, in other words, be any young female
college student.
|
 | JAMES PRENTICE: 50ish English
instructor, husband, and client of Dr. Logan. He is a sharp dresser and takes himself very
seriously.
|
 | MAGGIE : 50ish wife of James, casual in
dress and quiet in manner, with a sense of growing underlying anger in her marriage. Can
be sarcastic.
|
 | DELIA: College student in her early 20s,
a "free spirit" in dress and manner, intelligent, independent, strong.
|

The Setting
TIME: Two days during December between the years 2000 and
2005.
The action takes place in the psychotherapy office of Dr.
Logan. Other settings, such as Prentice kitchen and James college classroom, are
presented in the form of recollection and should therefore be suggested rather than
elaborately depicted.

Plot Summary
Dr. Henry Logan is working frantically to understand why his
long-time patient, the intelligent and capable James Prentice, is rapidly unraveling.
But what exactly is the cause of James deterioration? Is it his emotionally
distant marriage, his struggle to feel important within his career, or his growing
obsession with a college student named Delia and her apparent indifference toward him?
This drama in one act examines the things that keep us going, the things that tear
us apart, and the ways in which we impact one another, especially when secrets and passion
are at stake. |
