A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams May 3-19, 2012 In Tennessee Williams’ powerful and poetic classic, set during the restless years following World War Two, fragile, faded Southern belle Blanche DuBois seeks refuge from her checkered past with her sister Stella Kowalski, who lives in the French Quarter of New Orleans with her husband Stanley. Stanley – blunt, brutish, sensual, territorial – pushes Blanche for answers about the loss of the family estate, and why she left her job as a high school English teacher. Desperate to start anew and clinging to a futile dream of genteel refinement, Blanche is dismayed by the undeniable animal connection between Stella and Stanley.
