NEW!! FITCHBURG: Cornerstone Performing Arts Center is pleased to present Love Letters by A.R. Gurney on March 26 at 7:30 p.m. The performance will feature area actors Pamela Hill and Bob Eiland. Poignant, romantic, witty, and charming, the play centers on just two characters, Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III. Simply presented, actors sit side by side reading notes, letters, and cards that trace 50 years, spanning grade school to middle age. The characters share their hopes and dreams, triumphs and failures of lives lived separately, yet intertwined. This simple, yet powerful, play will be performed as a fundraiser for Outreach to Teach: Extreme Makeover.  This project partners: Fitchburg State College, Fitchburg Public Schools, Arthur M. Longsjo, Jr. Middle School, the Student Education Association of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Teachers Association, and the National Education Association, with community groups and businesses. On April 24, 2010, more than 150 volunteers will grab hammers, brushes or mops to repair, paint, clean, landscape, and decorate the school, digging in to give the Arthur Longsjo, Jr. Middle School in Fitchburg a much needed facelift. The goal is to raise $10,000. This performance of Love Letters is part of that fundraising effort. Reservations are strongly encouraged as seating is limited. NEW!! MANCHESTER: The Palace Theatre continues its Citizens Bank Performing Arts Series with the groundbreaking Tony and Pulitzer Prize award-winning rock opera, RENT March 26th - April 11th. Jonathan Larson’s hit musical RENT transformed the definition of musical theater when it opened on Broadway in 1996. An inspiring story about friends and a community of young artists living together as they struggle through life in the East Village of New York City, RENT tackles addiction, poverty, AIDS - and most of all, love. The Palace Theatre is the first theater company in Southern New Hampshire to be granted the rights to present the full stage version of RENT. For the Palace’s production, Artistic Director Carl Rajotte has assembled an amazing cast of 18 actors, many of which call New York City home. Carl Rajotte is excited to bring RENT to the Manchester area and is anticipating that the production will draw a fresh, younger audience to the Palace. “RENT is realistic and socially relevant. The dramatic material affects the audience in a powerful way and it remains as potent today as it did when it was first introduced. It is really an examination of life,” says Rajotte.  Tickets are $15 to $45 depending on seating and child/senior/adult status. Tickets are available at the Palace Theatre box office, by calling 603.668.5588 or visiting www.palacetheatre.org.

CONCORD: Those who want to get a free sneak preview of the Petit Papillon’s The Root Children, a new original ballet of a folk tale, should stop by the Children’s room of the Concord Public Library Saturday morning on March 20 at 11 am.  A few dances from the ballet, and a reading from the fairy tale, will be sure to delight aspiring young dances, as well as adults who still dance in their heart.  The full premier performance will take place the following Saturday, March 27, at 2 and 7 pm, across the street from the library at the Concord City Auditorium, 2 Prince Street. Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for children and seniors, and will be available at the library preview, as well as on sale at Gibson’s Bookstore, 27 South Main St, Concord, at Ballard’s Novelty and Party Shop, 7 Broadway St. Concord, and the studios of Petit Papillon, in the Green Street Community Center, 39 Green St., Concord. Group rates are available.  The Root Children is based upon the beloved German story written in 1906 about the seasons and how they change bringing birth and rebirth to nature. Choreography for the ballet is by Patricia Walker and Kelly Doremus Stuart and will reflect many areas of dance. The ballet is an enchanting adaptation of the favorite children’s story that will transport audiences into a fantasy world reflecting the forest home of birds, butterflies, dragonflies and all the other creatures who dwell there. Members the ballet theater are joined by younger students of Petit Papillon School of Ballet to tell the story of the incredible natural world we live in. Cast members for this production represent the communities of Concord, Bow, Hopkinton, Henniker, Pembroke, and Sanbornton. Petit Papillon Ballet Theatre of New Hampshire is the performing arm of Petit Papillon School of Ballet a non-profit community school of dance located in downtown Concord. The company has been performing original ballets for over thirty years. The school philosophy approaches dance education as an art form, not as a sport or a competition.
