NEWPORT: Island Moving Co.’s annual summer gala and live
auction
will be held June 27, 2009, at Doris Duke’s Rough
Point. Due to Miss Duke’s love of dance and the performing arts, the Company is
the only non-profit honored to be able to use her Newport home for a fundraising
event. The gala’s theme this year is “An Evening in Shangri-La.” Tickets are
$250 for the entire evening; a special $75 ticket is available for after dinner
dancing and open bar, with music by the Alex Donner Orchestra. Rough Point is
located at 680 Bellevue Avenue in Newport, RI. The event’s Chairman is
Island Moving Co. Board member Theodora Aspegren, who has again assembled a
fabulous evening, including celebrity auctioneer Kathy Kingston; Alex Donner’s
electrifying dance band; catering by Blackstone Caterers and auction items
donated from a galaxy of donors. The auction echoes the Shangri-La theme,
offering fantastic escapes and distinctive delights. The Shangri-La Gala
on June 27th benefits the programs Island Moving Co. presents in area schools,
introducing thousands of children annually to the expressive possibilities of
dance. Shangri-La is the name of Miss Duke’s estate in Hawaii, and evokes a
mystical and enchanted world, far from every day cares. For information,
