SHARON: Seussical Song & Dance Workshop has just been added to the exciting 2008 Youtheatre roster! Learn the songs and dances from this popular musical, based on the story of “Horton Hears a Who” by Dr. Seuss. Cindi Parisi, who recently choreographed Seussical, along with Music Director John Moran will be leading the charge. STAMFORD: STW's Summer Theatre Camp will begin in June for children ages 8 to 12. The camp offers two sessions, two weeks each, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The first session runs June 30 through July 11; a second session runs July 14 through July 26. Different material will be covered in each session, and children may enroll in one or both. The Camp program includes acting, singing, speech and movement, culminating in an original musical play to which family and friends are invited. All classes are taught by accredited professionals at STW's theatre located at 200 Strawberry Hill Ave., Stamford (on the campus of Sacred Heart Academy). Most classes take place on the STW stage. WESTPORT: July 7 – 25 - Westport Country Playhouse presents “Summer in the House,” a new, three-week long summer camp program. Grades 2-3 (rising) will meet Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Specifically designed for young actors, students will work with artist-educators on scenes from classic folk and fairy tales for a presentation on the final day of class. Grades 4-5 (rising) will meet Monday through Friday, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Specifically for developing actors, students will work with artist-educators in the preparation of scenes from age-appropriate scripts including Shakespeare’s stories for a presentation on the final day of class. BOSTON: Vocal Chamber Music w/Mary Ann Lanier - June 24-July 10 (six meetings), TuTh: 6:00-8:30 p.m. Combine the thrill of being a soloist with the intimacy of making music in a chamber ensemble. Open to high school students and adult singers (instrumentalists are also welcome), this course offers an introduction to four centuries of literature for solo vocal ensemble (two or more voices with piano or instruments. Students will study the subtleties of chamber music, learn to listen closely to their performing partners, and explore how to bring the printed score to life. Tailored to the interests and abilities of the participants, the course concludes with a concert. Literature is drawn from the works of Purcell, Brahms, Haydn, Schubert, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Fauré, Dvorák, Britten, Foster and others. BOSTON: The Song Recital Workshop w/Murray Kidd, instructor & Mana Tokuno, piano.  June 23-July 16 (eight meetings), MW: 6:00-8:30 p.m.  Final recital: Wed July 16, 8:00 p.m.  This class, now in its eighth year, will explore the amazingly rich and exciting repertoire of art songs, helping participants develop as performers, increasing their emotional communication and musical artistry. The material covered will include some of the most beautiful masterpieces in the art song genre, as well as favorites from the Broadway stage. College-age, post-graduate students, and high school students participate in this class: the inclusive nature of the course stimulates learning for all ages.  Each session will focus on performing techniques, diction, musicianship, communication, practice techniques and body alignment. the class is fun and supportive, encouraging everyone to experiment with new ideas. Students will perform twice during the session: the final recital, and a more casual performance half-way through the class. Each student will receive a CD of the final recital which will be professionally recorded. (In the past, students have used this for applications for colleges and other programs.) BOSTON: High School Internship - July 7-August 2 (Monday - Thursday, Ages 14-19).  In this multi-session program, participants will explore performance skills, Shakespearean text and develop their leadership and mentorship skills. Focusing on Citi Performing Arts Center(SM) Free Shakespeare mainstage production of As You Like It, participants will become familiar with the story line and its universal themes and share their knowledge with the community through teaching internships and leading Interactive Performance Workshops. SOMERVILLE: Musical Theater Audition Workshop for High School Students w/Celia Slattery - June 9-30 (4 meetings), M: 6:00 - 8:30 p.m.  This hands-on group workshop introduces students to strategies to prepare for successful auditions including: Vocal technique: learn the difference between "belt" and "legit" and how safely to make the sounds you want; Repertoire: find out what you should include in your repertoire book; Acting the song: learn to choose a strong intention for your piece and get it across;  Working with the accompanist: let your pianist help you; Stage presence: become comfortable with your nonverbal communication and learn how to deal effectively with stage fright.  The workshop will end with an in-class recital on Monday, July 30.   Note: Students should come to class with sheet music to at least two pieces that they know by heart.  Non-credit: $240.  www.celiaslattery.com

SOMERVILLE: Vocal Performance Workshop: Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) Styles w/Celia Slattery - June 27-29 (three days), Friday: 6:00-9:00 p.m.; Saturday: 10 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.; 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.; Sunday: 10: 00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Final recital: Sunday, June 29, 3:00 p.m. While building on the foundation of classical (bel canto) voice training, CCM styles - i.e., Jazz, Pop, Folk, Rock, Musical Theater, Cabaret --require a different approach to technique and unique stylistic considerations. This is an opportunity to work in a supportive group atmosphere on different aspects of your vocal performance including: Vocal technique (utilizing Somatic Voicework™ the Lovetri method): learn to mix head and chest registers; how to "belt" safely.  Style and interpretation: learn styles appropriate to popular musical genres, and become a more expressive performer. The course will be of interest to Theatre Arts students in all fields- Design, Acting, Directing, Technical; and also to students in film and video production and music composition.  Script analysis, emotional response, experimentation and creativity will be stressed to develop a complete sound design within a production style for 2 separate projects. Classes will be held in the Spingold sound studio, and the Spingold computer lab.  This class won't get into any system work at all, it's really focused on learning how to create and mix audio in a DAW (Logic for the course), and how to conceptualize and create a design. I may go briefly into some computer playback software, like Qlab and Cuestation. I have left minidisks and cd's, etc. behind. I recommend Qlab to anyone who asks, it is extremely cheap and extremely reliable and easy to use.  Required Texts: Deena Kaye and James Lebrecht: Sound and Music for the Theatre; Thorton Wilder: The Skin of our Teeth; Tennessee Williams: Camino Real; Naomi Iizuka: Polaroid Stories; Sophie Treadwell: Machinal; Required Reading on Reserve in Library: Scenes of an Execution by Barker; Macbeth by Shakespeare; Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead by Stoppard.  Recommended Reading: John Huntington: Sound Design in the Theater.  Topics Include: Script analysis; Listening analysis; Aural response and concept development for assigned play projects; Connecting characters, relationships, environment, period, themes, concepts, etc. to sound and music; Building cue lists and associated paperwork; Research techniques for music and sound; Music history relative to period play production; Operation of Digital Audio Workstation hardware/software; Use of Plug-in effects- Reverb, Delay, Compression, EQ, Distortion, Pitch-shift, etc.; Recording and editing digital audio and MIDI sequencing; Loop based and traditional music composition and arranging; Use of samplers and software instruments; Mixing in Surround; Discussion and critiques of sound design for film and television; Computer programming for digital audio performance cue playback; In-studio demonstrations and computer lab classes will allow for hands-on cue construction, recording, arranging, and editing. Two assigned major projects consist of a complete sound design for a selected theatre piece, including a defined production concept, cue lists, aural response, and several constructed sound cues.

WESTON: SPOTLIGHT is a 3 week summer theater workshop where participants will be given instruction and training in the areas of singing, acting, dancing, film/television acting, auditioning, technical theater, and more.  SPOTLIGHT aims to engage today¢s youth in the discovery of theatre¢s many components. In an exciting, non-competitive, fun filled environment, we strive to enrich appreciation for Theater Arts through education, creativity, and passion. Participants will receive theatre arts training both on stage and backstage which foster each individual's talents and aspirations with an emphasis on teamwork and personal growth.  At the end of the session there will be a fully staged musical open to family, friends, and the public!  (Auditions for the musical will be held on the second or third day of the program. DURHAM: Registrations Begin for UNH Summer Theatre & Dance Camps (7/7-8/15)

NEW!! EPPING: Leddy School is still accepting registrations for summer camps! There is Sing Out! #1 for ages 7 to 11 and Sing Out! #2 for ages 12 to 16 with Mary Gatchell, both of which will take place the week of June 23 through 27; tuition is $125.00. Sing Out! #1 runs from 10:00am to noon, while Sing Out! #2 runs from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Both culminate in a recital on June 27. The weeks of June 30 and July 7 (two-week session) there is Musical Theater Summer Camp with instructors Elaine Gatchell (choreography), Mary Gatchell (stage singing) and Paul LeFevre (acting); tuition is $275.00.
