Seussical Song & Dance Workshop has just been
added to the exciting 2008 Youtheatre roster! Learn the songs and dances
from this popular musical, based on the story of “Horton Hears a Who” by
Dr. Seuss. Cindi Parisi, who recently choreographed Seussical, along
with Music Director John Moran will be leading the charge. Scheduled for
the week of August 11–15, from 1pm to 3:30, this
workshop can be combined with High School Musical Song & Dance Workshop

STAMFORD: STW's Summer Theatre Camp
will begin in June for children ages 8 to 12. The camp offers two
sessions, two weeks each, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The
first session runs June 30 through July 11; a second
session runs July 14 through July 26. Different
material will be covered in each session, and children may enroll in one
or both. The Camp program includes acting, singing, speech and movement,
culminating in an original musical play to which family and friends are
invited. All classes are taught by accredited professionals at STW's
theatre located at 200 Strawberry Hill Ave., Stamford (on the campus of

WESTPORT: July 7 – 25 - Westport
Country Playhouse presents “Summer in the House,”
a new, three-week long summer camp program. Grades 2-3 (rising) will
meet Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Specifically designed for
young actors, students will work with artist-educators on scenes from
classic folk and fairy tales for a presentation on the final day of
class. Grades 4-5 (rising) will meet Monday through Friday, 2 p.m. to 6
p.m. Specifically for developing actors, students will work with
artist-educators in the preparation of scenes from age-appropriate
scripts including Shakespeare’s stories for a presentation on the final

BOSTON: Vocal Chamber Music
w/Mary Ann Lanier - June 24-July 10 (six meetings),
TuTh: 6:00-8:30 p.m. Combine the thrill of being a soloist with the
intimacy of making music in a chamber ensemble. Open to high school
students and adult singers (instrumentalists are also welcome), this
course offers an introduction to four centuries of literature for solo
vocal ensemble (two or more voices with piano or instruments. Students
will study the subtleties of chamber music, learn to listen closely to
their performing partners, and explore how to bring the printed score to
life. Tailored to the interests and abilities of the participants, the
course concludes with a concert. Literature is drawn from the works of
Purcell, Brahms, Haydn, Schubert, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Fauré, Dvorák,
Britten, Foster and others. Prerequisite: Call the instructor

The Song Recital Workshop

Final recital: Wed July 16, 8:00 p.m. This class, now in its
eighth year, will explore the amazingly rich and exciting repertoire of
art songs, helping participants develop as performers, increasing their
emotional communication and musical artistry. The material covered will
include some of the most beautiful masterpieces in the art song genre,
as well as favorites from the Broadway stage. College-age, post-graduate
students, and high school students participate in this class: the
inclusive nature of the course stimulates learning for all ages.
Each session will focus on performing techniques, diction, musicianship,
communication, practice techniques and body alignment. the class is fun
and supportive, encouraging everyone to experiment with new ideas.
Students will perform twice during the session: the final recital, and a
more casual performance half-way through the class. Each student will
receive a CD of the final recital which will be professionally recorded.
(In the past, students have used this for applications for colleges and

participants will explore performance skills, Shakespearean text and

SOMERVILLE:
Musical Theater Audition Workshop for
High School Students w/Celia Slattery - June 9-30
(4 meetings), M: 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. This hands-on group
workshop introduces students to strategies to prepare for successful
auditions including: Vocal technique: learn the difference between
"belt" and "legit" and how safely to make the sounds you want;
Repertoire: find out what you should include in your repertoire book;
Acting the song: learn to choose a strong intention for your piece and
get it across; Working with the accompanist: let your pianist help
you; Stage presence: become comfortable with your nonverbal
communication and learn how to deal effectively with stage fright.
The workshop will end with an in-class recital on Monday, July 30.
Note: Students should come to class with sheet music to at least two

canto) voice training, CCM styles - i.e., Jazz, Pop, Folk, Rock, Musical
Theater, Cabaret --require a different approach to technique and unique
stylistic considerations. This is an opportunity to work in a supportive

including: Vocal technique (utilizing Somatic Voicework™ the Lovetri
method): learn to mix head and chest registers; how to "belt" safely.
Style and interpretation: learn styles appropriate to popular musical

cover the artistic and technical aspects of conceptual sound design,
exploring the path of a realized design from first reading to final
rehearsal. The course will be of interest to Theatre Arts students in
all fields- Design, Acting, Directing, Technical; and also to students
in film and video production and music composition. Script
analysis, emotional response, experimentation and creativity will be
stressed to develop a complete sound design within a production style
for 2 separate projects. Classes will be held in the Spingold sound
studio, and the Spingold computer lab. This class won't get into
any system work at all, it's really focused on learning how to create
and mix audio in a DAW (Logic for the course), and how to conceptualize
and create a design. I may go briefly into some computer playback
software, like Qlab and Cuestation. I have left minidisks and cd's, etc.
behind. I recommend Qlab to anyone who asks, it is extremely cheap and
extremely reliable and easy to use. Required Texts: Deena Kaye and

arranging, and editing. Two assigned major projects consist of a
complete sound design for a selected theatre piece, including a defined

WESTON: SPOTLIGHT is a 3 week summer
theater workshop where participants will be given instruction and
training in the areas of singing, acting, dancing, film/television
acting, auditioning, technical theater, and more. SPOTLIGHT aims
to engage today¢s youth in the discovery of theatre¢s many components.
In an exciting, non-competitive, fun filled environment, we strive to
enrich appreciation for Theater Arts through education, creativity, and
passion. Participants will receive theatre arts training both on stage
and backstage which foster each individual's talents and aspirations
with an emphasis on teamwork and personal growth. At the end of
the session there will be a fully staged musical open to family,
friends, and the public! (Auditions for the musical will be held
